The Chairman/CEO, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, lauded Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma, on Thursday for the support he gave to the state’s intending pilgrims in order for them to participate in this year’s holy pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Arabi lauded the governor while receiving him (Uzodinma) at the Hajj House headquarters of NAHCON on a courtesy visit and expressed delight in hosting the Imo State helmsman in the Hajj House.
A release signed by NAHCON Deputy Director, Information and Publications, Mousa Ubandawaki, made available to Tribune Online stated that Arabi said the governor was a pillar of support for the Commission.
The chairman described the governor’s interventions in ensuring that Imo State intending Muslim pilgrims will participate in this year’s Hajj as a symbol of peaceful religious coexistence and unity in Nigeria.
According to Arabi, “You have been a pillar of support to us in the Commission through your support in ensuring that Muslims in Imo State will be able to participate in Hajj.
“You supported us in 2023 and also this year in spite of being of the Christian faith and Imo State being a predominantly Christian state. For us, you are a symbol of peace, religious coexistence, and unity in the country.”
The NAHCON CEO subsequently presented Governor Uzodinma with a letter of commendation and an award of excellence for his support and promotion of peaceful religious coexistence and unity.
Responding, Governor Uzodinma expressed his sincere appreciation for the honour shown him and restated his firm belief in peaceful inter-faith coexistence to promote development and prosperity in Imo State and Nigeria as a whole.
Ubandawaki informed us that Governor Uzodinma was part of a handful of governors that provided subsidies with regard to the 2024 Hajj fare, which enabled intending Muslim pilgrims from his state to participate in this year’s Hajj rites.
