2023: Powershift key to political stability in Nigeria, says civil society

Published by

A Coalition of Civil Society for Good Governance group has stated that power shift is a prominent factor for stabilising the political system in Nigeria

It said because the country is a Plural society where there are divergent views on issues of national concern, it was imperative to review the profile of contending stakeholders against 2023, most specifically from southern Nigeria.

A statement jointly signed by the group’s convener Okpanachi Jacob and Saleh Kanada, Coordinator North East, the group also disclosed plans to undertake a consultation tour of Northern Nigeria with the view to X-ray leadership profiles that will fit in the final project 2023.

It said this would be achieved through consolidated consultation thereby providing an open political engagement with a focus on Southern President with a specific focus on President Goodluck Jonathan.

Also, the group said it decided to embark on the tour for consultation and verification on the candidacy of former President Jonathan.

However, it reiterated that the verification was not an endorsement of former President Jonathan but noted that, “the continual sustainability of this project shall be fundamentally ingrained in its acceptability by the civil populace thus it is a project identification tour which shall produce a project identification Brief.”

The group further stressed that the consultation tour seeks to initiate a political framework of engagement with Northern based Civil Society groups.

This, it said, will undertake interactions with youths, women and faith-based organisations in furtherance of the already existing programmes of #thenextpresident.

“We shall be visiting North Central, Kogi, Nassarawa, Kwara, North East, Borno, Taraba Bauchi, North-West, Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto.

“We wish to call on all well-meaning Nigerians, youths, students, women and political leaders to support power rotation and shift to the south as it remains the fulcrum for balancing power in Nigeria.

“We once again assure you that Coalition of Civil Society for Good Governance (CCSGG) under her project #thenextpresident shall ensure that all citizens are carried along in the leadership recruitment process for 2023 electioneering,” it stated.
