Alhaji Mukhtar Shehu Shagari (CFR)
Former Minister for Water Resources, Barrister Mukhtar Shagari has officially declared his intention to contest for Governor of Sokoto State ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Shagari, who was also a two-term deputy governor in Sokoto State made his intention known while addressing stakeholders at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) office in Sokoto on Thursday.
The former two-term Minister of Water Resources under President Olusegun Obasanjo, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state is hoping to succeed the incumbent, Aminu Tambuwal.
Speaking while presenting his expression of interest form, addressing stakeholders and party faithful, Shagari said his intention to contest for the Gubernatorial seat was to consolidate on the achievement of Tambuwal led administration.
He assured the party faithful in the state that as a former minister of the federal republic of Nigeria and two-term deputy governor of the state, he possesses the age required experience to become the next governor of the state.
He further expressed his readiness to operate an open administration which he said will benefit the people of Sokoto State.
Shagari said his belief in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), makes him remain loyal to the party since its inception in 1998 till date.
In his remarks, the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto, Bello Goronyo, assured him of the level playing field for all the aspirants.
Recalled that the state Commissioner for environment, Sagir Bafarawa, was the first person to obtain an expression of interest and declare for governorship seat in the state.
