The aspirant, Deacon Iyovwaye, receiving the form from the leader of the Isoko/Urhobo Unity forum, Chief Hope Erute on Monday in Warri.
Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Isoko/Urhobo Unity Forum (IUUF), on Monday, purchased a form for one of its members, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, to contest for the governorship primary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State.
The form was handed over to Deacon Iyovwaye, one of the PDP governorship aspirants, by the leader of the Isoko/Urhobo Unity Forum, Chief Hope Erute, in a brief but colourful event held amid supporters at NPA Estate, Airport Road, Warri.
While handing over the form to Ighovwaye, Chief Erute described him as an industrialist and technocrat, noting that the decision to support the aspirant was fundamental and that the aspirant has proven to be a man who fears God and understands the people of the state.
“The support to present this form to Deacon Chris Iyovware is not ordinary, but fundamental.
“We start by presenting him the form for the governorship race on behalf of the Isoko/Urhobo Unity Forum and friends of Chris Iyovwaye all over Delta State.
“We are picking a candidate that is sellable, a candidate that will put into consideration the well-being of Delta State.
“We have seen it that he is a grassroots man and a man who fears God; And what we need in this state is a man who fears God. We want you to see this as a clarion call to salvage Delta State,” he said.
Speaking on his plans for the security challenge in the state, Deacon Iyovwaye, who expressed his gratitude to the forum, said he would build a gate fortified with cameras in the borders separating the state from other states to monitor movements in and out of the state.
“I am grateful for this kind of gesture. It’s not all the time you will see people come together to agree on purchasing a form for one of their own. I am grateful.
“I want to assure you that by the time we get there, and with the things we set up, things will happen for Delta. Delta needs a governor that understands the environment and the people.
“The first problem we have as a state is security. And what we have agreed to do is to set up city gates with bulldog cameras that can see at night and equally during the day within the state’s borders.
“That means you can’t come into Delta State and leave without being picked up.
“Once security, which is the major problem is sorted out, Delta will grow rapidly. Of course, you can’t rule out infrastructural development where there is security.
The PDP governorship aspirant, who commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for a job well done in his tenure, said he would introduce a SMART PLUS agenda to improve industrialisation, and create job opportunities through investment in the energy sector if elected as governor.
