2018 has been a great year for you. Would you say you could achieve this feat in the beginning of the year?
For me, It has really been more than great. In fact, the year has been so awesome and I thankful to God and my fans for their support over the years before we finally got to this level. It’s all thanks to God because I didn’t have a clear picture of the year ahead at first.
You actually started the year slowly after dropping Isabella. You were silent for a while and you made people worried. What went wrong those quiet times?
I had to take a moment to relax and figure out what the next right sound for me would be. The industry is moving fast and I won’t want to be left behind. I needed to be sure of the song and the sound I was putting out so that everything will work according to plans.
You are signed to Mixnajia entertainment, a not-very-popular label but the company has stood its ground and pushed you to this new level. How do you feel?
I feel extremely grateful to the label and all the people that have helped me to this current level. I’m not sure I would have had it any other way. One thing that has kept me on my game is the fact that they are always supporting and encouraging me. Even when I felt so down, my boss would say, ‘be strong. The big moment is almost here.’ Today, the story has changed and we are all enjoying every moment.
Looking at the journey so far, what’s your assessment of your career at this point?
I’ve had ups and downs in my career. At this point, I think I’m doing really well and with the help of my team and the label’s full backing, we’re going up only. The story has changed for good and we will continue to get better.
Fall in Love was a concept in my head. We had a few trials on the beat by Killertunes before the idea of how relationships might not work because I’m an artiste and most parents would rather prevent their daughters from dating one in this day came to mind and then I wrote down the song. I am shocked how Nigerians received it. The love was just too much to contain.
The song has become so big that everywhere you go, people chorus it with you when you perform. Did you ever believe a day like this would come soon?
I have always dreamt that a day like this would come. It gives me so much joy every time and I thank God for my dream becoming a reality.
With what you have achieved this year, are you aware the expectations are already high and people are hoping that you will beat your record in the new year. How prepared are you?
I’m definitely aware and I’m hoping to beat my own records too. My team and I are working hard everyday; we’re prepared to drop more “classical” songs in the New Year. We are not worried at all despite the pressure to drop a new song. Trust me, the next sound from me will be bigger and even better than Fall in Love.
But people expected that you would have dropped another single by now. Are you sure you are not a onehit star?
To be honest, it’s not exactly the same treatment as before anyone knew the name “T-Classic”, but still, life is sweet for me and I’m living it as best as I can. I’m definitely not a one-hit star. Fall in Love may be my biggest track so far, but more are coming.
I learnt your new single is ready. Can you say the song will be bigger than Fall in Love?
I know the song is a hit already. We’ll push even more this time and with God on our side, we know we’ll go very far with this one too.
You had a great year and performed at a number of big shows. Which of those performances did you feel most?
My personal favourite remains Trace in the City performing alongside Mayorkun. The reception was fantastic. The experience was awesome. In fact, I’m yet to get over the feeling. Another big moment for me came.
On which stage this year did you think people were thrilled most?
I think I’ve managed to thrill my people every time I get up on stage. Different crowds, different reactions, but they all definitely vibed along.
Share with us the experience you would not forget in a hurry at any of your shows this year?
That would be my recent performance at Kings College, Lagos there was so much love that I felt I’ll be dragged in to the crowd if I was not careful.
