2019: Tambuwal promises to correct southwest marginalisation

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Presidential aspirant, and governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, has promised to address the marginalisation of the Southwest region by the present administration in the country.

Tambuwal lampooned the All Progressives Congress (APC), led government in the country over the seeming marginalisation of the Southwest region in the area of appointments into sensitive posts and execution of projects.

Tambuwal, who was in Akure, Ondo state capital, to canvass for the party’s delegates supports ahead of its presidential convention, urged Nigerians to reject President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term bid, saying that Nigeria would be better without an “analogue leader.”

He noted that President Buhari would not be able to cope with the modern-day system of governance while Nigeria needs a digital, energetic and focused leader to pilot the affairs of the country at this critical period.

According to him, President Buhari “is not digitally compliance” to run a complex country like Nigeria with ethnic and cultural diversities while the nation cannot afford to cope with an analogue president like Buhari.

Speaking on the marginalisation of the Southwest region, he noted that the region and other southern regions of the country were being marginalized by Buhari, saying this has led to the distrust among the ethnic nationalities in the country.

He, however, pledged to correct the imbalance in the polity if he emerged as the standard bearer o the PDP and eventually wins the 2019 presidential election.

He disclosed that he has the experience of running a complex country like Nigeria having served as the Speaker of the House of Representatives which have members from all ethnic nationalities in the country.

Tambuwal said “I know what Nigerians needs; I have the experience to run a complex country like Nigeria. I will use my good office to distribute appointments and projects to all sections of the country.

“I will liaise with the National Assembly to reach the grassroots; I will use the identified needs of the people to prepare the budget. You do not sit in your office and assume what the people need.

Tambuwal assured the party members that the presidential primary of the PDP would not lead to a crisis among the aspirants, saying all the aspirants were united in ending the impunity, non-performance that the APC led Federal Government has plunged the country.

On restructuring, the Sokoto State governor said “Any serious Nigerian will know that when we are talking of restructuring, we are talking of development. We are not talking of personal interest of any group but we need to put it in place to fix the country. We have held various conferences which have been kept aside; by the time I emerge to be president of this country, I will make sure the country is restructured.”

Speaking, the Chairman of PDP in the state, Mr. Clement Faboyede said members of the party in the state had played host to many of the presidential aspirants in the past one month and would examine their manifestoes to pick the best that is good for the country.
