2019 polls: NUJ to partner INEC, NOA, others on vote buying/hate speech sensitisation

THE Nigeria Union of Journalist, NUJ, Anambra State Council, had said it will partner the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the National Orientation Agency (NOA), in the state, to educate the public on the dangers of hate speech and vote buying, which the informative body noted was gradually creeping into the nation’s political life, in order to check the menace.
In communiqué signed by the state chairman of the NUJ, Mr Emmanuel Ifesinachi at the end of this month Congress held at Godwin Ezeemo International press centre, Awka, the Anambra state capital, on Thursday.
The state chairman, who condemned the use of inflammatory and hate speeches as well as pronounced high rate of vote buying by some politicians during the primary elections and the just concluded Ekiti/ Osun governorship polls, called for public education to check the undemocratic incidence.
He, however, commended political parties for the peaceful and mature manner in which their primary elections were conducted across the country and advised them to sustain the practice in order to ensure the success of the Feb 2019 general election.
On the rampaging flooding in the state, the Union praise the state governor Chief Willie Obiano, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), for assisting communities affected by the flood and urged them to sustain the effort.
The Highlight of the Congress was the inauguration of a 5-Man Credentials Committee for the forthcoming Triennial Delegates Conference of the Union.
