2019: Police warn troublemakers in Kwara

COMMISSIONER of Police in Kwara State, Mr Bashir Makama, has warned people who are not qualified to be at collation centres during the coming general elections in the state not to come near the places.

Speaking during election security meeting his command held with stakeholders that include leaders and candidates of political parties, community leaders and electoral officers in the state on Tuesday, the police boss said that, at times, attempts are made to disrupt election at collation centres.

He, however, assured that such attempts would be nipped in bud if made during the election in the State.

The police boss said that the collation centres and other strategic areas including the polling booths would be well fortified with security to ensure there is no disruption of the election.

Makama said police would embark on specialised patrol during the election for the purpose security of the electorate, electoral officers and election materials.

He urged the electorate to conduct themselves in a good manner while also advising followers of political parties to refuse to be used for violence by politicians.

The police boss asked the serving youth corps members who would be performing duties at the election not to allow themselves to be arm-twisted by the politicians but discharge their duties diligently.

He cautioned political leaders against overstepping their bounds as he warned that unauthorised use of siren would not be allowed during the election.

Also speaking at the occasion, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Garba Madami, assured that the electoral body in the state would provide a level playing ground for all the parties contesting the election.

Madami said that the body would conduct a free and fair and transparent election “that the state will be proud of.”
