AGAINST the backdrop of the 2019 general elections, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, on Saturday in Osogbo, Osun State capital declared that no amount of intimidation and propaganda can hinder the anticipated electoral victory of the main opposition party during the forthcoming election exercise.
He contended that the All Progressive Congress (APC) government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari had destroyed the democratic values and governance in the country, saying threats and intimidation cannot save stave off the impending defeat of the ruling party during the polls.
Secondus, who made these disclosures while addressing crowd of party members, stalwarts and other major stakeholders of the PDP during the South West mega rally hosted by Osun State chapter of the party asserted that “we would rescue this nation from the APC and no amount of intimidation can stop our party from winning 2019 general elections.”
According to him, “APC has destroyed democracy. Are you going to continue to allow them? No amount of any intimidation can stop us from winning in 2019. We would win in 2019. Go and tell Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun to go and start packing his belongings because we are going to win the September 22 governorship election in this state.”
In his remark, the immediate past national chairman of the PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi charged party members to intensify door-to-door campaign, with a view to shoring up the support base for the opposition party ahead gubernatorial election in the state, stressing that “Osun must come back to the PDP. You must unite yourselves by going to house-to-house. We are here to give you moral support.”
He stated that “it is essential for you to move around the wards, local governments in your state to mobilise and sensitise the people on the need to join hands with our party to save this nation because it belongs to all of us.”
Meanwhile, former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rasheed Ladoja, who also addressed the gathering tasked the PDP members not to be complacent by re-strategising and work much harder so that the party can win September 22 governorship poll in Osun, just as he assured the people of his support to boost the electoral chance of the party.
However, a former chieftain of the APC in Osun, Alhaji Fatai Oyedele Diekola and hundreds of his loyalists, who have dumped the ruling party for the PDP were received into the opposition party during the rally.
Dignitaries at the rally include former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, ex-governor of Niger State, Alhaji Aliyu Babangida, Ekiti State governor, Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose, former Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, former national chairman of the PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, former chairman, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Senator Olu Alabi, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Chief Francis Adenigba Fadadunsi, and Barrister Niyi Owolade.
Others include a member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Shuaib Oyedokun, the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbodiyan, deputy national publicity secretary, Prince Diran Odeyemi, Osun State PDP chairman, Hon Soji Adagunodo, former chairman of the PDP in Osun State, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, Cheif Nathaniel O. Oke (SAN).
