2019: NCP stages awareness rally in Lagos, visits Gani Fawehinmi’s family

AHEAD of 2019 General Election, members and leaders of National Conscience Party (NCP) on Monday in Lagos staged a rally that took off from Ikeja under Bridge down to the GRA residence of late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, to create awareness among Lagosians.

The party was founded by late Lagos lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi.

Addressing the rally, presidential aspirant on the party platform, Dr Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, said the party provided a better alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The fact is that Nigerians are tired of the status quo. They have tasted PDP for 16 years and now they have also tested APC and they have seen that they are not different,” he said, declaring that Nigerians were desperately looking for an alternative in NCP.

“Nigerians are desperately looking for alternative and NCP is that alternative,” he declared.

The NCP chieftain, while describing the step being taken by the party ahead of 2019 poll as a revolution, noted, however, that there existed some good people in both APC and PDP, saying that all these politicians would be brought together to form a movement.

“This is a revolution. We are going across party lines. In all fairness, there are still some good people in APC and PDP. We are coming together across party lines to form a movement,” he said.

Speaking further, Ikubese lamented that Fawehinmi would be agitated right now in his grave because of the state of the nation, saying, “Things are moving from bad to worse and all of us must come together to rescue the nation.

“All we are seeing are propaganda, laying of blames. We are not seeing definitive plans. The government should be able to say in the next one year, these are the things we would have achieved, this is our direction, policy statement,” he said.

He, however, vowed to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari if he decided to contest again in 2019, adding: “If he (Buhari) recon tests election in 2019, it would be a plus for the NCP because we would defeat him easily.”

“So we actually pray that he re-contests,” Ikubese further added.

Lagos State Chairman of NCP, Comrade Bayo Ogunleye, in his remark, said the rally succeeded in raising the consciousness of the electorate about NCP and its masses-oriented programmes and policies.

“We held the rally from under the bridge in Ikeja down to Gani Fawehimi’s house. It is meant to be symbolic and a tribute to his memory and all that he lived for while he was alive,” he said.
