A United State based-Nigerian, Honourable Okey Samuel Mbonu has declared his intention to run for the President in 2019 general elections.
Honourable Mbonu, who made this declaration at a World Press Conference in Abuja, said Nigerians need a country that is secure, adds value, and not strife to the rest of the world.
He said his leadership would focus on five prongs of solution-driven governance such as Security and Related Infrastructure; Electricity and Related Infrastructure; Healthcare, Agriculture and Related Infrastructure; as well as Youth and Girls Education and a political will to govern without clannishness and without being beholden to corrupt circles.
Honourable Mbonu, who hails from Umuoji, Idemmili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, said under his leadership, Nigeria would become a model nation in Africa, and one of the world’s great republics.
He said he would make the political platform known very soon as consultation among various stakeholders was still ongoing, saying zoning would not affect his chances because it was not in the nation’s Constitution.
According to him: “Some people say national leadership is zoned to various regions in Nigeria, my friends, do not succumb to this mediocrity; because there is no such clause in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“We are all first-class citizens of Nigeria; from Akwa Ibom to Kwara, from Anambra to Katsina, from Bornu to Port-Harcourt, and from Lagos to Benue. On this matter of zoning, the Constitution is where we stand.” He stated.
The co-founder and Director at the Nigerian-American Council in Washington DC said his ultimate aim was to offer solutions; solutions to problems that the current leaders, and some aspirants did not have the slightest idea on how to solve.
He, therefore, paid tribute to the founding fathers from rising Republic; including, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Anthony Enahoro, Sir J. S. Tarka, M. T. Mbu and others.
“I also want to pay homage to the architects of Nigeria’s second Republic, including Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Murtala Mohammed, Shehu Shagari, Ibrahim Babangida, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Goodluck Jonathan, and the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari.”
He said all of them have done their best for a complex country such as Nigeria, hence the time for a brand new leadership, a leadership suitable for the 21st Century.
