2019 May/June WASSCE records 64.18% pass in mandatory subjects — WAEC

THE West African Examinations Council, WAEC, on Friday, in Lagos, released the May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examinations, WASSCE, results for this year, presenting a 64.18 per cent of candidates with pass marks in mandatory subjects.
A total of 1,590,173 candidates sat for the examination, out of which 1, 020, 519 (representing 64.18%) obtained credits and above in at least five mandatory subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
It was 923,486 (representing 49.98%) of the total 1,572,396 candidates who sat the same exam last year had a similar result, indicating an improvement.
The Head of National Office, WAEC Nigeria, Mr Olu Adenipekun, announced the release of the results at a media conference at Yaba headquarters office of the examination body.
He said the results of 180, 205 (representing 11.33%) of the total number of candidates who sat the exam are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of exam malpractice and their cases are being investigated to determine if to eventually released or cancelled
Adenipekun also said the results of candidates who were sponsored by the state government that have yet to pay their exam fees in full would equally not be released until such is done.
He, however, said candidates could now start checking their results on the council’s website, given at www.waecdirect.org.
