AHEAD coming general elections, Police authority is set to increase the number of officers and men in Ilorin, Kwara state capital, with the formation of additional five police divisions and three Area Commands in the metropolis.
Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of the Nigeria Police School of Public Relations in Ilorin at the weekend, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Moshood Jimoh, said that the formation would help improve the security of lives and property in the identified areas.
The police boss, who said that locations of the police divisions include Serkin Kaun, Hajj Camp, Oke Fomo/Pakata, Gaa Akanbi, and Jimba Oja, added that request for establishment of Oko Olowo police division in the Ilorin metropolis was being attended to by the police authority.
He also said that the three Area Commands are located at Oja Oba, Surulere and Kulende in the metropolis.
The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, who was represented by the Balogun Gambari of Ilorin, Alhaji Aliyu Adebayo, commended the Police authority on past projects and programmes in the area, while he asked for more of such projects to increase police presence in the emirate.

He also pledged support of the leadership and people of the emirate towards ensuring peace and stability in the area.
In his speech at the programme, the provost of the school, CP Emmanuel Ojukwu (rtd), said that the school, which commenced operation in 2017, had trained officers and men of the police on relevant skills to effective policing of Nigeria democracy.
He also called for support of the people on the project, to ensure Nigeria reaps benefit therein.
