Muhammed Tukur
The lawmaker who contested but lost the Bauchi south senatorial by-election candidate in the recent Bauchi South under the platform of the Action Peoples Party (APP) stated that he is undecided as to whether to contest again for the senatorial seat or retain his seat in the State Assembly in the 2019 polls.
Aminu Tukur who stated this over the weekend while chatting with newsmen at his Bauchi residence said he left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the new party due to alleged injustice meted out on him and his supporters however alleged that the electorate sold their mandate on being given stipends by the state government to vote for the APC candidate Lawal Yahya Gumau in the recent Bauchi south senatorial by-election.
He explained that “We decided to go to the APP so that we could have the mandate of the ordinary man. Unfortunately, the very ordinary person who usually complained about being neglected by the present government in the state decided otherwise on being given a stipend”.
Aminu Tukur who tressed that there was massive vote buying during the by-election lamented that “So, it goes to tell us that those that we are supposed to take care of are even not ready to appreciate what we have been doing to them”.
The lawmaker, therefore, noted that for the meantime he has not decided his political fate for 2019 general elections adding however that he would take a stance based on the guidance of his political mentors under the leadership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
“You should know that I operate under the leadership of His Excellency, the Right Honorable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara who is still a member of the APC and I regard him as my political leader”, he pointed out.
On the ability of President Muhammadu Buhari to manage the unending crisis rocking the ranks of the ruling APC, Aminu Tukur decried that the “President has failed woefully, forcing some of the founding members of the party to defect from it”.
He concluded that “It was the failure on the part of the President that led to all the kind of crises rocking the party all over the federation. I am calling on the President to still be a father to everybody otherwise I am certainly sure it is not going to end well”.
