2019: I’m still with Buhari – Tukur

Though he has dumped the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) for the Action Peoples Party (APP) in order to contest the Bauchi South senatorial by-election, the member representing Lere/Bula constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Muhammed Aminu Tukur, who is contesting for the Bauchi South has declared that his allegiance remains with President Muhammadu Buhari and will support him in the 2019 presidential election if the APC gives him the ticket to run for re-election.

Speaking about President Muhammadu Buhari while presenting his party’s manifestoes at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Bauchi, Aminu Tukur alleged that he left APC due to lack of internal democracy and justice in the state chapter of the party leading to the primaries for the Bauchi south senatorial by-election.

He further explained that his decision to quit the APC was as a result of the party’s failure to conduct primary election through the direct voting system that would have allowed all card carrying members of the party to vote for the candidate of their choice as promised by the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole.

According to him, all the aspirants had completed preparations for the conduct of the exercise, but were later, around 5pm of the day the primary election was scheduled to hold, summoned for a meeting at the party’s State Secretariat where they were informed that the primary election would be conducted by delegates whom he did not trust.

Aminu Tukur also alleged that he did not know the delegates designated for the primary election saying he therefore joined the APP the party that would be fair to him claiming that he is the most qualified for the job being a two-term legislator in the State where he has acquainted himself with legislative workings.

“I want to assure Nigerians and the people of Bauchi South that if elected, we will run transparent and corrupt free legislative activities” and vowed to tackle the problem of unemployment in his constituency which according to him will reduce abject poverty to the barest minimum.

He said: “with active legislation if elected, there will be poverty reduction through creation of employment to our citizens. Remember that 30 years back, the poverty line was not as worst as it is today because out of 100 households, only 10 could not afford three square meals then but today out of 100 homes, 70 are living in abject poverty and we are determine to change this trend for better”.

“We will surely legislate for better governance because we are determine to give our contribution to the development of this nation to ensure that our people are given sense of belonging”, he assured.
