2019: I’m contesting for President to correct anormaly ― Ezekwesili

A former Minister of Education, Dr Driageli Oby Ezekwesili on Thursday said she is contesting the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria ACPN, to correct all the nation’s anomalies that have resulted into unemployment, insecurity, vote buying, among others vices.

She said she decided to run because the All Progressive Congress APC-led federal and the major opposition, the People Democratic party, PDP administrations from 1999 till date were purposeless and that there appears not to be a government in place in Nigeria at present.

Mrs Ezekwesili who disclosed this in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State while addressing residents, groups, traders, drivers, among others who urged her to contest for the presidency said she would make sure the country’s past glory is restored if given the mandate.

She said the political war of words between APC and PDP in this circumstance is purposeless which is why it is important for her to step in to salvage the situation.

According to her, Nigerians are living under a purposeless leadership by the APC, and all we have seen so far as change is unprecedented deterioration in the security and law and order, rise in cases of corruption, and failure of good governance.

She maintained that the only way to meaningful change in this country is to take away power from those who have been misusing it.

“With your support, I intend to offer myself for the position of the President of Nigeria on the platform of this great party ACPN,” she said.

The ACPN leader, however, urged the people not to limit their support to her alone, saying, “I will like to point out to you that, to be more meaningful, your support must extend beyond my person and always be available to the party and all those the party puts forward; because it is the party that has the platform.”

She added that the ACPN is a party with several qualified persons for each and all the positions that would be contested, including that of the president.

She however warned all Onitsha residents, volunteers and other well-wishers within her party and outside the party not to insult or be rude to any other parties during the 2019 elections.

She urged them not to engage in any kind of behaviour or conduct that would tarnish the image of any leader or promote division and rancour for the interest of peace.
