2019: Group urges ex-Lagos commissioner, Opeifa, to join senatorial race

A group, Lagos West Concern Movement (LAWECOM) has urged former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opiefa, who is currently serving as FCT Transportation Secretary to join the Lagos West Senatorial race for the 2019 polls, assuring him of its absolute support.

The state coordinator of the group, Mr Shittu Odunlami Mutiu, made this known while speaking with newsmen, saying the people in the senatorial district took the decision to back Opeifa for the race because of his sterling qualities and love for the downtrodden.

Mutiu added that A group, Lagos West Concern Movement (LAWECOM) has urged former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opiefa’s consistent efforts aimed at enhancing the welfare of members of his constituency further endeared him to the electorate now clamouring for him to represent them in the Senate.

“We endorsed him to represent us in the Senate this time around because we have confidence in his ability to adequately represent us more,” Mutiu said, describing Opeifa as a true son of the soil, with intimidating credentials and someone who had championed the development of the constituencies that made up the district through various empowerment programmes.

“But if we support Comrade Opeifa, a true son of the soil, with intimidating credentials and who has championed the development of the constituencies that made up the district through various empowerment programmes, we are sure he will represent us well and bring development to this district. We have appealed to him to flag-off his aspiration and we think that will be done at the appropriate time,” he said.

Already, the group coordinator said LAWECOM had started canvassing votes and selling the politician who he described as “seasoned technocrat, teacher, luminous scientist, an indefatigable human and civil rights activist and product of collective struggle, a former University lecturer, unionist, ebullient and populist politician and progressive democrat as a brand.”

Speaking further, Mutiu contended that the Lagos West being the most populous senatorial district in the country deserved a full-time senator with known pedigree for service, saying that the former commissioner, who is a known June 12 activist, a disciple of All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a Buharist to the core “is our only choice of hope for the people.”
