2019: Group tasks Atiku on PDP unity ahead elections

A political support group, the Atiku Abubakar South-West Assembly (AASWA), Ekiti State chapter, has congratulated the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the coming general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and charged him to carry all the strata of the party along in his quest to dislodge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.

The group, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, said it was “quite sure the former Vice President was capable of steering the ship of Nigeria well”, saying “Nigerians should see the candidature of Atiku Abubakar as a fulfilment of their desire for a competent man for the job.”

The Atiku Abubakar South West Assembly, in the statement signed by it National Patron, Professor Bayo Fakunle and Ekiti State Coordinator, Dr Jimi Oke, gave kudos to the PDP and its national convention committee led by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, for what it said was “a clean job” and for “providing a level-playing field for all our erudite aspirants who we also commend for their high sense of sportsmanship.”

In the statement also signed by Posi Omodara (Ekiti Central); Michael Adedeji, (Ekiti South) and Anifowose Badejo, (Ekiti North), AASWA said with Atiku’s emergence, “Nigerians have demonstrated a desire for the return to good governance.”

It said: “The people have demonstrated it with the landslide victory of Atiku Abubakar. We know you will be magnanimous in victory to bring everybody on board, under the PDP umbrella, to overtake the All Progressives Congress (APC) and beat the line ahead of them.”

According to AASWA, “the election of the former Vice President as the flag-bearer of the PDP in the presidential election was a pointer to the desire by Nigerians to have a more visionary president and purposeful leadership for the country.”

It advised the PDP candidate to not leave any stone unturned in the coming electioneering period to keep the party together and bring his experience to bear in the quest to make the country better.

“Our dear Waziri Adamawa, we know you will bring your Wealth of experience, determination and zeal to play at this critical moment of Nigeria’s history. There is no doubt that God has prepared you with a necessary endowment to captain the ship of the PDP to a safe harbour in 2019.”

The group added that its members were also grateful to Ayodele Fayose “for a window of an operational environment through which a few of us worked to secure the majority of Ekiti delegates’ votes for His Excellency Atiku Abubakar.”
