2019: Gombe women call for peaceful elections

Published by

WOMEN in Gombe State, cutting across tribal and religious affiliations, Thursday marched from Emir Palace through major streets in the state capital, canvassing peace and peaceful conduct in the forthcoming general elections.

At the end of the Rally at the Government House, the women pleaded with Nigerians to embrace peace during and after the 2019 general elections because according to them the election is not a do-or-die affair and should be devoid of violence.

While speaking with Journalists shortly after the rally the North-East Coordinator of the Women Situation Room in Nigeria, Hajiya Zariyatu Abubakar Hashidu, said that whenever there is violence, women and children are at the receiving end.

According to her, “it is the women who would suffer at the end of the day. After the election, it is also we who would suffer, adding we don’t want to lose our husbands or our children, brothers because of elections”

“We want a peaceful generation where our children will grow without any violence, and learn to love themselves and live in peace and harmony”, she added.

He said that government would not achieve its goal in the atmosphere of violence, chaos and anarchy, adding that their administration will support all that women were doing.

He urged the women to talk to their husbands and children to shun violence and eschew anything that will be inimical to peace before, during and after the elections, women as mothers are the custodian of the human race.
