2019 Elections: INEC receives sensitive materials in Anambra

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)in Anambra has said that it has received all the sensitive materials needed for the smooth conduct of the February 16 general elections.

Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state disclosed this in an interview with journalists at the Central Bank of Nigeria Anambra office in Awka on Thursday.

He said that the material has been sorted out ranging from the materials for National Assemblies House of Representatives and Senate and the presidential elections.

Orji said that all the material batches for the twenty-one Local Government Areas of the state has been sorted out and would be escorted to the council areas by the securities operatives deployed for INEC elections.

He added that all the twenty-one Divisional Police Officers in the state was on the ground to collect the batch allocated to their various council areas and assured that before 6 pm all materials must be deposited in their council areas.

Orji said that the state commission has received a full replacement of all election materials that was gutted by fire in their storage which occurred on February 12 and was ready to conduct a smooth election come Saturday, February 16, 2019.

Mr Williams Odumu, Chief Superintendent of police and operations officer in Anambra police command said that the command witnessed the delivery of the sensitive materials to the INEC personnel.

Odumu said that the police command was ready to discharge their security duties to ensure that all the electoral sensitive materials gets to the base without challenges.

Chief Norbert Obi, State Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) said that he was happy at the process being applied by the INEC in the collection and sorting of the sensitive materials.

Obi who was represented by Mr Ogonna Obi a member of the party said that the process was very transparent and was commendable.

Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party said that he was satisfied so far at the process of the delivery used by the commission and hope it would be continued throughout the election period.

Nwuobu who was represented by Mr Obi Nwokwu said that he witnessed the delivery of the materials to the INEC officers was commendable and urged the commission to maintain the tempo of its transparency.

Mr Kingsley Ezekwum a party agent for the All Progressive Congress APC said that he was in to witnessed the electoral process of delivery of sensitive materials to the electoral umpire and prayed that it would remain open in its operations all through the exercise.
