Christianity in Nigeria today
A lot of Christians have derailed from what the Bible teaches us. They do not follow the doctrine of Christianity. A lot of clerics now preach more of prosperity than salvation or the second coming of Christ. Also, the excruciating economic situation in the country has made some Christians to indulge in ungodly things, trying to look for money at all costs. It is a dent on Christianity seeing clerics being arrested for rituals in the name of trying to increase the population of their congregation and amass wealth. We should be the light of the world, so it’s time we retraced out step in order to fully experience the power of God in our individual lives, in the body of Christ and in the nation at large.

Nigerians hold the record of people that believe so much in prayers and conduct revivals, yet the country is bogged down by a lot of challenges. What do you think is responsible?
The Book of James 4:3-4 gives a clear answer to the question. It is true that we are popular with revivals, but what are usually the targets of some of the revivals? A lot of clerics have turned revivals into business and avenues to make fortunes. Is that what the Bible teaches us? Are we praying for the lost souls? Are we using revivals to propagate the second coming of Christ; are revivals being used to intercede for the nation? The solution to the problems facing the country and Christians is that we make a quick return to Christ; adopt a righteous life; live in love and unity. The blood of the righteous that has been spilled and used for sacrifice is on those people continually dine with the devil. Until we leave our sinful life, seek the face of God in prayers and fasting, the nation will not be free from its various challenges. Nigerian leaders must take the lead in the prayer and fasting.
Why do you think rivalry has become so pronounced among clerics in the country?
Mathew 7: 15 – 23 has already given people an insight into how to detect fake clerics. They are people that are always after material things, amassing wealth and property through church funds. You find them fighting because of this. It is written in the Bible that number of fake prophets and pastors will rise in the last days.
Preparation for the 2019 general election is gathering momentum, and there are calls for active participation by Christians. What advice do you have for Nigerians at large?
My advice for all Christians is to go out in en masse to vote for righteous candidates; people with the fear of God. They should vote for those that can restore the glory of the country. We need people that will allow God to absolute control of the affairs of the country. This is how we can move forward as a nation. We should not lose another golden opportunity because of peanuts. Our votes are vital and should determine the future of the country. Christians must use the general election to sack all unrighteous leaders. We must bring an end to the era of impunity and recycling of political leaders. We have had enough of the culture of scared cow.
How easy has been in your effort to sustain the legacy of your brother, popularly known as the Lion of Judah, Prophet Elijah Akinade?
It has not been an easy task. It’s God that has made it possible. His shoes are too big for me, but God has given me the wisdom to carry on. It has been a rare grace in sustaining his legacy. I thank God that the ministry has grown in leaps and bound. I also appreciate the true and dedicated members of the congregation, who are determined that the legacy must not die. Our parents brought us up in the way of the Lord and all my wife and siblings are ministers of the gospel. I have learnt a lot and I am still learning in the ministry and seeking the face of God for more grace.
You are also manage the career of your wife,, who is a notable gospel musician. What are some of the challenges arising from trying to play the role with that of a cleric?
There is no clash of role in any form. I handle bookings on behalf of my wife most times on phone, while the ministry is in my office and the church. My wife and I understand each. She has been very supportive to the ministry; she makes my work easier. It is a great joy and blessing that both of us work in the vineyard.
Most ministers of God collect honorarium for ministrations. Why is your case different?
It is a directive from God and I am not ready to go against His mandate. Some people have queried me over that, but I have decided to heed the ordinance of God until He says otherwise. I feel this is a way to further spread the gospel. The propagation of the gospel is our primary assignment and we must not allow the affluence of the earth to distract us from it.
