THE Senatorial candidate of the Ondo North senatorial district under the platform of Action Alliance (AA) in the forthcoming election, Dr Tunji Abayomi, on Monday, said there was no iota of truth in the rumour that the party cannot field a candidate for the next general election in the state.
Abayomi who faulted the insinuation in Akure, Ondo state capital, attributed the negative report from the camps of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the popularity of the AA in the state ahead of the next month general election.
According to him, some elements within the APC noticed the imminent failure of the party in the election and had been running down the AA and its candidates ahead of the election.
Abayomi who said the AA platform remained a formidable platform saying the emergence of the party as a new formidable opposition has been the source of worries for other political parties in the state especially the ruling APC.
He explained that: “The AA submitted their names of its candidates both at the initial level as well as at the substitution level. If they are talking about the primary, I want to tell you that INEC’s supervision or non-supervision of the primary cannot validate a primary because primary does not belong to the INEC, primary belongs to the party.

“So I want to confirm to you that everything is in order, all these noises will soon be a thing of the past after the National Assembly election, those complaining should just wait till January 17, 2019.
“They are complaining about AA because they are threatened by the rise and popularity of AA to correct the wrongs and perversion of justice that took place during the primaries of the APC. The people should rather complain about APC, not AA.
“Those that are complaining are mischievous and also they are in fear because they know that the two automatic senatorial candidates of the APC are at risk of losing the election, that is why they are jittery.”
Abayomi maintained that the AA remains a party to beat in the election, saying the APC had no place in the senatorial election in the Ondo North Senatorial District.
There was a report against the party over its failure to conduct party primaries election while there was no substitution of candidates list to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Abayomi and two other members had dumped the APC to join AA to achieve their political aspiration in the 2019 election, which included Stephen Olemija, Olatunji Felder and Segun Ategbole.
