2019: Buhari begins Southeast zonal rally in Enugu amidst tight security

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari, standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday stormed Enugu, the Enugu State capital for his Southeast zonal rally amidst tight security.

Buhari who had earlier arrived the Akanu Ibiam airport Enugu en-route to Onitsha Anambra State where he commissioned the Late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe mausoleum was received by thousands of APC faithful at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu for the formal flag off of the party’s Southeast zonal campaign rally.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State had held a colourful airport reception for President Buhari to the admiration of the August visitor and his supporters.

Buhari is expected, among other things, to solicit votes in the forthcoming Presidential election as well as explain how he will complete the Second Niger Bridge, which is very dear to Ndigbo.

Prior to Buhari’s visit, the police in Enugu had assured the people of the state and visitors of adequate security before, during and after the visit.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amarizu in a statement said, “The State Police command has put adequate machinery in place in partnership with other security Agencies and relevant stakeholders for a hitch-free visit of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Enugu the Coal City State.”

“Meanwhile, the command is advising motorists and other road users to be law-abiding as some major roads and streets will be closed to traffic for sometime in the course of the presidential visit such as Ogui road leading to Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium Enugu, Abakpa Nike road passing through Liberty bus stop and linking T junction axis of Abakpa Nike Area,University of Nigeria Enugu Campus axis linking Ogui New Layout and
Azikiwe stadium Enugu.”

“It is advisable to note that all markets within Abakpa axis and linking Igwe Julius axis will be closed temporarily. The command, however, regrets any inconvenience this will cause. The roads and streets will be open to traffic once the visit is concluded,” the Police Spokesman concluded.
