AS agitation for political offices in the forthcoming general elections heightens, a coalition of various Women groups from the 20 local government areas of Bauchi have asked all the gubernatorial candidate for the 2019 gubernatorial elections in the State to step aside and allow the only female governorship candidate under the platform of the Action Congress of Democrats (ACD), Hajiya Baheejah Mahmood Abdullahi to become the first female Governor of state and in Nigeria.
Spokesperson of the Groups, Hajiya Fatimah Umar stated this when she led hundreds of women carrying banners and placards to address a special Press conference at the NUJ Secretariat in Bauchi after they held a solidarity rally in all nooks and crannies of the state capital on Thursday.
She said that, “We are tired of Male dominated Politics that always left us where we are still hanging our problems are not solve except fake promises that will not address our fundamental and basic problems as human beings, we need to break the record to makes History we want candidates, all Political Parties and electorates in Bauchi State to come out en masse on 2nd March 2019 to elect Baheejah as First Female Governor in Bauchi State and Nigeria.”
Fatimah Umar accused candidates and political parties of not communicating meaningfully with the electorates; saying, “they are not exactly selling new ideas or new policies. They are promising the same thing concerning problems that have not been addressed and which ought to have been addressed and most of the problems were actually caused by male dominated leaders in the first place due to selfish interest and bad governance, which makes it difficult for them to talk differently in an innovative manner, they even trade in provocative, defamatory language which ignites sentiment.”

She further said that: “People elected a leader for four years for him to address the problems bedevilled the society and after four years if he failed to address the problems instead he even worsened the situation, as electorates what do you do? You have to make the best use of your Permanent Voters Card to send him away and bring a messiah to save your situation and chart the right part of honour for the development of your state.”
Fatimah Umar also said, “We Believe as Mothers and daughters our candidate Baheejah always feel the pains of our condition and the living standard of our populace we know what Bauchi People really want something that will make their lives better, not the usual issue of paying salaries, gratuities, eradicating poverty, unemployment, water, electricity, and so on and so forth these have become daily preaching’s of generalising issues that they will easily abandon them after winning the election.”
She pointed out that, “Male are not prepared to rule, they don’t even have reason to seek for election because of their inability to solve the socio-economic and Political problems of our dear state its now our time they should give woman a chance to bring a genuine socio-economic development programmes for the benefit of a common man.”
Most of the women Speakers who spoke in English, Hausa, Yoruba, Fulfulde, Igbo and Jaranci languages urged electorates to give their votes in bulk to Baheejah Mahmoud on election day.
Meanwhile, the only female gubernatorial candidate under the platform of the Action Congress of Democrats (ACD) has declared that she is still in the race to contest for the 2nd March 2019 governorship election and she doesn’t know anything about the coalition of six Political Parties aimed to defeat the present administration in the state.
Reacting to a report published in national dailies which said she was part of the coalition.
She said: “To put the record straight, I was contacted once on phone by one person a day before they addressed a Press conference and they didn’t discuss anything with me” saying that, she only learnt that some political Parties held the press briefings, after several meetings with party chairmen, gubernatorial candidates and their deputies she was not aware of all the meetings they held in Abuja and Bauchi because she was not invited.
Though she said their effort is a good attempt with commitment and genuine sincerity and she urged all Political Parties including the incumbent APC administration and people of Bauchi State to give Bauchi women chance to produce next female Governor in the State since they didn’t hold the position before it’s now our time and I have all it takes to govern the State. In fact, I am a meritorious candidate.”
