Published by

PVCsPVCsTHE Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Rufus Akeju, on Monday, decried the low rate of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collection by registered voters in the State.

Akeju who stated this while addressing journalists in Akure, Ondo state capital, on the display of preliminary register of voters exercise, said about 364, 265 PVC had not been collected by voters in the State.

He, however, said that a total of 1,372,158 out of the 1,736,423 registered voters across the 3009 polling units in the State have collected their PVC.

He said that 364, 265 PVCs were still uncollected, and called on registered voters in the State to collect their PVCs in order to enable them to exercise their civic rights in next year’s elections.

According to the REC, the display of preliminary register of voters would commence between November 6th and November 12, 2018, across the polling units in the State and appealed to the residents to inspect their names and raise claims and objections.

This action which he said is in line with the provision of section 19 of the electoral act 2010 (as amended) could be due to wrongly spelt name, incorrect age, address and gender.

He said: “This will be done at all the polling units across the State. Voters are expected to visit the polling units where they registered to check the details of their registration and complain if there is any misrepresentation in the displayed register against their names.

“The Revision Officers (REVO) will be located at the Registration Area Collation Centers to hear complaints from voters on their registration details.

“Members of the public are enjoined to please avail themselves of this opportunity to ensure a very clean register. They are also enjoined to maintain orderliness throughout the exercise.”

He disclosed that the last two days of the exercise would be for the claims and objections which would be handled by the Revision Officers.
