Christian leaders are among the authorities that set the tone for 2018 through their predictions, prophesy, and messages of hopes. The year has witnessed lots of events with some direct or indirect relations to the prophesies concerning 2018 and beyond. Sunday Tribune examines some of the prophesies and predictions that came to pass.
CAN president on vicious attacks by herdsmen
The president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Samson Ayokunle, was one of the clerics that struck the country with an alarming prediction. Ayokunle, in his 2018 New Year message, predicted that “God will not allow depression to consume us all, which could lead to untimely death, as well as attach on communities, states by herdsmen.”
The series of violent attacks in the northern part of the country, which claimed a lot of lives and rendered many homeless, was part of his predictions that came to pass.
The case of the popular Hip-Hop artiste, Harry Song, who cried out to be soaked with depression and report of the suicide of a 300-level student of ABU student, Aisha Omolola, on December 27, were some of the reported cases of depression by CAN president.
Pastor Adeboye’s international prediction
Some prophesies of the General Overseer Worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, have come to pass. The country had witnessed the prophecy of the notable cleric on the fact that significant Goliaths will fall in Nigeria. This development had reflected in political system as the mighty are beginning to their strong holds
On the international scene, Adeboye predicted that, “This year, there will be less fire outbreaks but there will be more floods.” There were fire outbreaks in some countries like California wildfire, Greece fires, huge fire that guts Brazil’s 200 year-old national museum and Sweden also experienced a wildfire. Also, there are several other African and international countries that battled floods.
Primate Ayodele’s hits
In his predictions for the year 2018 and beyond, Primate Elijah Ayodele had said, “The economy will be threatened, even as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), will be injecting more funds into the economy to balance it.” He called on leaders, both local and foreign, to pray against death. Among those mentioned were former Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Kofi Anan and former American politician, John McCain. Unfortunately, two of them passed on. Before the conduct of the Ekiti election, Primate Ayodele had warned repeatedly that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would win the election. Governor Kayode Fayemi of the APC won the election. The modalities and eventual outcome of the Osun 2018 governorship election received a major mention by Primate Ayodele. He said: “the APC needs to win on a technical ground so as to retain the governorship seat; otherwise ADP or PDP will take over.” What eventually played out when the election was held was a rerun which eventually led to the declaration of the APC candidate, Gboyega Oyetola as winner of the election. In Lagos, before the disaffection between the state governor, Akinwumi Ambode and the National Leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, started. Primate Ayodele warned, “Let us rebuke plots against the governor of Lagos State, as I foresee that political enemies will gang up against his position for a second term. Lagos government will face various problems as various groups will be fighting the governor and he will have issues with big wigs in Lagos politics.” He equally predicted the earth tremor in Abuja; the removal of Jose Mourinho; death of one of Nollywood’s thespian, Baba Sala; explosion in Abule Egba, Lagos; death of (OPC) founder, Frederick Fasehun; the attack on the army barracks in Metele and the death of former chief of defense staff at Badeh.
Reverend Fr. Mbaka’s bombshell
A Catholic priest and founder of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Reverend Fr. Ejike Mbaka, in the beginning of the year, also took a hard look at a nation’s problems and concluded that President Muhammadu Buhari was surrounded by “wicked and satanic cabals.” He said the cabals had brought untold hardship to the country and Nigerians. Mbaka’s bombshell was corroborated by Mrs Aisha Buhari, wife of the president when she declared that the government of her husband had been hijacked by some cabals.
Primate Okoh’s prediction
The prediction made by another respected cleric in the country, Primate Nicholas Okoh, was that Nigeria would bring joy to all compared to 2017, which he described as a “helpless situation in our national life.” But the prediction seems far from coming to pass, as many had described 2018 as the most challenging year, especially for millions of Nigerians that were reported to have lost their jobs, as well as wallowing in abject poverty. He said: “…Nigerians should remain hopeful; the year would be one of reaping fruits of labour, as the Lord would perfect blessings upon all spheres of national life.”
Most Reverend Samuel Abidoye’s prophesy
The prophecy of Most Reverend Abidoye for a bumper harvest of in the agricultural sector, and that there would be peace and development in the country, could be ascribed as a prayer-in-waiting, so far.
Instead of the predicted bumper harvest, Nigerians have groaned under the weight of the high prices of food, even outside festive seasons.
Prophet Oyadara’s hit on Atiku and PDP
The founder and General Overseer of the Christ for All Peoples Church, Ojoo, Lagos State, Prophet Samuel Oyadara shared his insights for 2018, saying, “God is warning former President Olusegun Obasanjo to repent before he dies. Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo needs to pray hard to escape plan of the enemies. Chief Bola Tinubu should pray against assassination.” But there were no report to such effect yet, as the lives of the personalities were not severely threatened, though they encountered mix feelings of castigations and commendation from Nigerians over some of their actions and activities in 2018.
He also prophesied that, on the rise of former Vice-President Atiku and PDP. He said: “What Atiku Abubakar must do if he wants to rule Nigeria is that he would need to conquer his strong political enemies through serious prayers. “I saw PDP umbrella rising up.” Atiku is the presidential candidate for 2019 elections.
Prophet Anene Nwachukwu revelation on NASS and Presidency
Prophet Anene Nwachukwu of Rhema Deliverance Mission, Lagos, predicted that there would be serious political crises, intra and inter-party squabbles and that the National Assembly would be at loggerheads with the Presidency and vice versa.
The prediction came to pass, as virtually all the parties are faced with crises. The hit of the Nwachukwu’s prophecy was the frequent direct and indirect face-off between the NASS and the Presidency. The invasion of the National Assembly by security operatives from the Department of State Services, (DSS) and the Police without any authorisation and the drama and protest that played out when President Muhammadu Buhari presented the 2019 Appropriation Bill at the National Assembly, as the president was booed during his presentation, sign posted his predictions.
Bishop David Oyedepo on transfer of wealth
The founder of Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo prophesied about massive transfer of wealth in 2018 and it came to pass. There were reported cases of massive transfer of wealth, such as the mystery serpent that swallowed N36 million from the JAMB office vault, and the interception of $2.8 million at the Enugu airport, among others.
Another prediction by Oyedepo was that there would be a lot of strange things in the year included importation of capsules filled with powdered flesh from dead babies from Eastern China; high consumption of hard drugs such as codeine and tramador, as it was reported that more than three million bottles were consumed on a daily basis in the northern part of Nigeria alone. Another pathetic story was the ongoing invasion of alleged Yahoo Boyz plus stealing pants. The tanker fire accident that claimed scores of lives and burnt hundreds of cars was one of the ugly incidents in 2018.
Olukoya’s prophesies
Some of the prophesies of the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire Ministry (MFM), hit the targets. He said: “This is a year where bondage will be repackaged and reloaded. There will be terrible attacks on several marriages this year and the family that prays together, stays together.” These prophesies came to pass, as there were several cases of terrible attacks on homes and abject poverty in the land.
Apostle Suleman’s misses and hits
The Senior Pastor of the Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide (OFM), Apostle Johnson Suleman had an admixture of hits and misses.
Some of the hits were: Year of serial bombings in Nigeria; Imo State governor to make governorship a family affair; wildfire outbreak in an American state; manhunt for Ekiti State governor by the Federal Government; government of Nigeria to disobey court orders; Senate President to be harassed embarrassed and threatened arrest.
Some of the misses: Donald Trump’s health needs attention, God says: ‘Let Sambo Dasuki go”, President Buhari to be flown abroad on emergency, a former Nigerian military President laid to rest, Many bloggers to be arrested and jailed; Tinubu to have public showdown with President Buhari; Robert Mugabe, former President of Zimbabwe, rest in peace, I saw two great northern kings in open conflict, church buildings collapse, tears, tears; Oh America, I see war in 2018 and I saw the naira gaining relevance.
