Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose
GOVERNOR Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, on Monday called on the support of the people of the state as Ekiti gears up for 2018 governorship contest, saying Ekiti needed continuity in governance, like Lagos State, to be able to sustain the current pace of development of his government.
Governor Fayose, who addressed beneficiaries of his government’s N5,000 monthly stipend; artisans, people living with disability; youths and students from the various tertiary institutions in the state, at the government house grounds, said Lagos was developing because a particular party has retained power there.
Fayose said: “Continuity is vital. Look at Lagos. No, I don’t belong to All Progressives Congress (APC) and I won’t belong there. But when we see something good, we should say it. Look at what continuity has done for Lagos. The state has been progressing because a particular party has been in government there. We need such in Ekiti.
“That is why I am calling for your support in the next election. We don’t want a governor that will not be there for the people. We need a governor that will not be far from the people; someone that can relate with you at Ilejemeje when you call, one that can dash down to Emure when you need him. We don’t want a foreign governor that will be saying he has a meeting with Obama.”
He told the gathering that they would be gathered at a place and line up governorship hopefuls for them to choose from, via a ballot, saying “you are the ones that will choose who you will support and vote for in the general election.
“When a wrong person is appointed he will destroy all the good works we have done. Never should a wrong person that will leave us in debt be appointed again.”
Speaking on the burial of the Kate General Adeyinka Adebayo slated for this week, Fayose called on the people to turn out in their numbers for the lying in state at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, saying “he is our father and we should turn out to honour him with our presence.”
According to him, “I have named the government house at Oke Ayoba and the general hospital, Iyin-Ekiti after him as part of the measures to immortalise him. Recall, that we built a women development centre and named it after the Kate deputy governor, Mrs Funmilayo Adunni Olayinka. This is not politics, it is governance.”
