As a result of the use, the tendency to fall in love with certain products, and sometimes losing expiry dates in the process, it becomes easy to use makeup products for years, without recourse to refreshing your stock.
According to experts, you should do a refreshing of your makeup bag, at least once every six months. And there are many reasons to look deep into the makeup kit. This will reduce the spread of germs, ensure you’re in line with expiry dates, and even help you stay in trend.
First of all, sort
Before anything, sort out your makeup products into four categories – the ones you recently acquired; the old stock you never use; the ones you use frequently but are much older than you care to remember, then the ones you foresee using in the near future. For the ones you never use, don’t hesitate to throw them out. For the ones you use frequently, but are older then you remember, sort them into categories according to their use. If the expiry date is still visible, wok strictly with that. For others such as foundation, concealer and eyeshadow should be tossed after a year. Other liquid-based products such as mascara can also go after six months.
Don’t be afraid to toss
It’s something many ladies are guilty of – holding on to makeup products that have overstayed their use. This may be for sentimental reasons, or simply an oversight. In 2018, don’t be afraid to get rid of products that no longer serve any useful purpose in your kit. Besides, as the year goes on, trends change and certain products fade out of style, so do the needful when it comes to throwing out the unneeded necessities. Nail polishes also have a way of overstaying their welcome in makeup kits. Once you notice discolouration, or drying out, it’s time to get rid of it.
Take a critical look at your eyeshadow/blush palette
Starting a new year is the perfect excuse to get a new palette when it comes to eyeshadow and blush. It’s not uncommon for colours to change as a result of the use of the same brush – in some cases the fingers – on different colours for various applications for eye makeup. As such, try to invest in getting a new palette this new year.
Recheck brow pencils
As a result of overuse, brow pencils take on a blunt end more quickly than expected. However, some ladies operate with the rule: ‘Don’t toss until it’s finished.’
Get on the trendy lipstick train
As the seasons come and go, even a few times within a year, lipstick trends change. Once upon not too long ago, orange lipstick was the in-thing. So was black, wine, purple and red. So, let your lipstick reflect the changing times and seasons.
The cracked, lidless collection
Caked products such as eyeshadow, powder, and the like, have the tendency to crack after some use, so you should also watch out for this when repacking your makeup bag. If it can be thrown out, take that alternative. Also, sometimes, makeup products lose their covers. Such products shouldn’t be left exposed longer than necessary, else you’re inviting germs or even quick ruin. If you can, pour it into another container with a lid. If not, throw it out.
Brushes, bags need care too
Since they have a longer lifespan than most, brushes also deserve to be taken care off as well. As you step into the new year, endeavour to wash your brushes. And it’s really simple. All you need is warm water and preferably, toilet soap. You should also endeavour to clean/wash your bag, as the case may be.
Update your collection
With the threatening trends set to take over 2018, now may be the time to update your collection by investing in more. Glitter looks ready to stay, so you can get products in that category. 2018 also looks like a year for trying bold colours.
Patronise an expert
Some ladies seem to have issues getting the services of experts, even for big events, preferring to ride the tide on their own. For makeup, nothing gives the perfect touch like the hands of a trusted expert. So, invest in your beauty this New Year.
