Last time we began looking at how this year has been and what our attitude and reaction should be so we can embrace the coming year correctly. Many people have been dealt with badly by life this year and many are groaning under the yoke of unpaid salaries, lost jobs, unprofitable businesses, insecurity etc. Politicians are invading our lives and are busy trying to convince us that voting them in will create the Eldorado we are all craving for but most people are not buying their stories.
As this year rolls to an inevitable end we need to be careful how we look at things. We must not lose hope.
“Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come.” Anne Lamott
Things might be gloomy now but care must be taken that we do not judge our future based on our past .
“When things are bad, we take comfort in the thought that they could always get worse. And when they are, we find hope in the thought that things are so bad they have to get better.” Malcolm S. Forbes
What we see will determine what will become of us in the days to come and in the new year. We must be proactive and put certain things in place to ensure our dream for our lives is not truncated by the adversities we have encountered.
We must imbibe certain habits and traits that will equip us for a great 2019.
We must practice the art of delayed gratification. We must not live our tomorrow today. We must sacrifice today so we can be satisfied tomorrow.
“The ability to discipline yourself to delay gratification in the short term in order to enjoy greater rewards in the long term, is the indispensable prerequisite for success.” Brian Tracy
Like they say, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
Difficult times toughen us and makes us stronger and this creates capacity in us for greater heights.
“Hard times are sometimes blessings in disguise. We do have to suffer but in the end it makes us strong, better and wise.” Anurag Prakash Ray
We must resolve to come out stronger at the end of this year than the way we were at the beginning if the year. This means we will enter the new year stronger and better.
“I have no regrets in my life. I think that everything happens to you for a reason. The hard times that you go through build character, making you a much stronger person.” Rita Mero
The hard times of the year should equip us effectively fir the year ahead. Adversity is a two edged sword. It can be for good or for evil depending on which side we allow ourselves to be influenced from.
Adversity purifies us.
“Hard Times Are Like a Washing Machine, They Twist, Turn and Knock Us Around, But In The End we Come Out Cleaner, Brighter and Better Than Before.”Anonymous
Adversity is not to be a dwelling place where we give too much attention to.
“Life is thickly sown with thorns, and I know no other remedy than to pass quickly through them. The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us.” Voltaire
It might have been a tough year but the new year need not be rendered useless because of our experience.
