2017 World water day: Nigeria to harness waste water for sustainable development

NIGERIA at the 2017 World Water day, set to harness the goldmine in waste water for sustainable development, the Federal Government on Monday stated.

World Water Day is an annual global event usually celebrated on March 22 every year to create awareness on Water Resources Management.

It is also a celebration to evaluate the activities of the water sector and its partners.

In a statement issued by the Director, Press Unit, Mrs Margaret Umoh in Abuja, she explained that Nigeria will join the rest of the World in celebrating the 2017 World Water Day with a Walk Exercise to be led by the Minister of Water Resources, Engr Suleiman Adamu.

It said the celebration’s theme “Water and Wastewater” will highlight the symbiosis between water and wastewater in the quest for sustainable development.

This, it said will also create opportunity to consolidate and build upon the previous World Water Days.

“It would also help to get latest update on how waste water is perceived as a valuable resource in the development of the economy.

“Specifically it will enlighten us on how improving waste water management impacts improvement on all six targets of the sustainable Development Goal on Water,” the statement reads.

The celebration in conformity with global practices, it said, is expected to feature, apart from the walk exercise, a symposium, exhibition among other activities.
