Gospel music icon, Evangelist Bisi Alawiye-Aluko, in this interview with SEYI SOKOYA, speaks on her music career, what should be the focus of gospel artistes, the uniqueness of the 2016 Prophetic Praise Festival, among other issues.
You have become a household name in the gospel music industry with your style of music. How were you able to achieve this?
I thank God for the journey so far. Fo me, my music career has always been a great testimony, because I never knew God had a better plan for my life through music. The secret is that my mission into music is not to flaunt myself as a celebrated gospel musician, but to impact lives positively and to let the world realise that the power of God and His manifestation still exist in music. I thank God that I have not deviated from this assignment, because, so far, the manifestation of His power is being spread globally through my music.
What has been happening to your music career in recent times?
I have been experiencing divine uplift which has manifested in all ramifications. I have really enjoyed the grace and the mercy of God, because I have decided to follow God’s directive and the Bible. My music, life and personality have really been a blessing to my world and people. I am fine with my career and everything is going on well. The music ministry is growing steadily and there is still room for expansion and development.
Do you think you have done enough with your music career?
The work of God is for a lifetime; there is no retirement. This is what God has called everyone to do on earth. To me, I have not started at all. Though I have been able to experience the manifestation of the power of God through my ministrations, the testimonies I have received have also justified that He has sent me on an errand. People should still expect more inspirational songs that will lift souls and deliver people. I have been able to make my music pure and unadulterated gospel, which is meant to orientate and fight decadence in our society.
What has it cost you to maintain your status in the gospel music industry?
Outside fasting and prayer which every child of God is directed to do, it has not cost me anything because I’m a carrier of His grace. The music ministry is a forum of serious and committed personalities who glorify God and impacted people’s lives in various unique ways.
How did you venture into music?
It is a divine directive. This is my 18th year in music and God has really helped me. Though it has not been easy, I would say that it has been a divine favour for the grace to be impacting lives and also creating a platform to always give people reasons to praise God unconditionally.
What qualities should dignified gospel musicians possess?
The industry has produced respected and God-fearing gospel musicians. But to respond to the question, everyone in the industry must be born-again and have the fear of God and follow what the Bible says to the letter. Personally, my aspiration in life has always been that God should elevate and promote me to a higher level in order to achieve my dreams in this career.
What is your relationship with other gospel musicians?
I have a robust and cordial relationship with other musicians. The industry is really booming and united in doing the will of God and winning souls. I have no regret being part of this family because it has given me leverage to showcase my talent. I already have 13 albums to my credit and more are coming.
What is your greatest challenge?
I have come to the level that I can never be overwhelmed by any challenge. These are bound to happen, especially when one is on the path of success. I treat them with divine knowledge as they come. Meanwhile, I also pass through challenges like every other musician; challenges relating to marketing, promotion and piracy. But I know we will overcome all these by the grace of God.
How have you been able to support others, especially up-and-coming artistes?
This is one of my priorities in the industry. I have been able to give maximum support to the younger ones and the records are there. I always give them hope and encourage them to see the need to keep the fire burning until God finally answers their prayers.
Your annual gospel music event holds today. What should your fans expect?
The programme is all about acknowledging the goodness of God in my life for His mercy and divine grace upon me as well as to appreciate my fans. This year’s annual ‘Prophetic Praise Festival’ is tagged: “Joyful Noise” and it will hold at B.T.O. Hall, along Ilesa garage, Akure, Ondo State. The event is unique as it will also showcase the performances of guest artistes including the Adegbodu twins, Kenny Ologo Ara, Kenny Olumide (Irawo), Kemi, Rehoboth, Yemi Adeola, among others.
Your husband plays a major role in your music career. Why did you involve him?
I didn’t involve him. It was the wish of God. He has been a strong pillar in the ministry. After God, my Igwe is next. He is understanding and ready to support me to any length. I am just fortunate to have a husband who believes and shares in my vision. He is a very humble and caring husband who believes in my career. He is my shield and always behind me even when I’m on stage.
What is your resolution for the coming year?
My resolution is to populate the kingdom of God the more through my music, to the detriment of kingdom of darkness and I know that God will help me to achieve this.
