Nigerian celebrities who seemed to have been worst hit by the economic recession that ravaged the better part of 2016 would surely be hoping for a better and prosperous 2017 even as some of them confessed that with the current economic downturn, they may have to continue to use their tongues to count their teeth. They share their expectations of the New Year with SEGUN ADEBAYO AND SEYI SOKOYA.
J Martins:
We had our hopes high in 2016 and we didn’t quite get what we wanted but we are still here and thanking God. Right now, the most troubling thing for me is the senseless killings in the Southern Kaduna that our government does not seem to be bothered about. What is the Kaduna State government doing on these killings? If our government can’t help us then let all the youth stand up and fight for their future.
Harrysong:
2016 was a big year for me. It didn’t really measure up to my expectations as I had hoped to achieve quite a number of things, one of which is to release an album. But I thank God for the perfect health and good life. Looking ahead into 2017, I want to expect less from the government and think about what to do for myself as an entertainer. Head or tail, we will keep entertaining our fans across the globe. I pray that 2017 will be good for my fans and we all shall be prosperous.
Patoranking:
Looking back to 2016, I feel privileged to have achieved a number of things last year. I think my album, God Over Everything, was the sweetest of it all. I am not expecting nothing less in 2017. My expectations of this New Year is to look up to God and keep the faith. It is going to be more music, more fun, more entertainment from Patoranking and his team. Let the music keep flowing.
Saheed Balogun:
I am very upbeat about 2017. My resolution this year is to concentrate more on my job and place premium on every job I deliver. As for what to expect in the face of the economic recession, I think I am one of those celebrities that would continue to use his tongue to count his teeth. Nigeria has found itself in a precarious situation and it is going to take the cooperation those in governance and the governed to get out of this mess. Nigeria needs us to get back on its feet. Nigeria needs prayers so that our leaders will put our interests in heart.
Olamide:
I have already started working on my goals for the year. I am not going to say everything was rosy for me in the outgone year but as far as music is concerned, I did have a lot of success stories to tell. The Olamide Live in Concert 3 held last week was one that people would always talk about. That, to me, is an achievement. And, I am looking forward to its fourth edition this year. It would be the loudest. My expectations are to keep pursuing my dream and never settle for less no matter where the condition of the jungle, the lion would never eat grass. So, my take from this is that 2017 will be work, work and work. Happy New Year to my fans.
Gbenga Adeyinka:
I feel very proud of what we have achieved as a country in the last one year and I believe that if this government continues in this direction, this year would be a better year for everybody. The recession has forced many celebrities to cut down on some of their excessess. Some of us have stopped spending money on things that are not neccessary. Those days when celebrities would go to clubs to pop from morning till night are over. You will discover that many people have returned to farming and I see more people working with their hands in 2017. We now cut our coats according to our clothes these days. There will be no time for frivolous spendings in 2017. I hope that government would create an enabling environment for us to work effectively so that we can reap the gains of our sweats while we can. I pray for a more prosperous New Year for Nigerians.
Adewale Ayuba:
I admire the restiveness of Nigerians and their ingenuity to create something out of nothing in the outgone year. I don’t see that changing this year. My expectations of the New Year are to see Nigeria move forward in spite of the many challenges bedevelling its progress. Our government must live up to its expectations. Nigerians must feel the impact of a working government. We are already seeing the impact of the fight against corruption among others. Now is the time to start delivering the dividends of democracy to the people who gave them their mandate. So for me, 2017 is going to be a good year for us provided the right mechanism to make the country work is put in motion.
Vector:
I hope that things will begin to work better as the government has promised that 2017 will be the year of fruitful rewards for Nigerians for their patience in the last two years. I am really hoping that things get better, that our government will not continue to churn out policies that would leave the people pauperised. Nigeria will be great again if our leaders do the needful at the right time.
Omoni Oboli:
2017 will be a good year, I am already having that feeling. God will shower His own with great grace and favour that our hearts would not be able to express how we feel. Yes, things are quite hard now and people are not finding it funny but with God on our side and hard work on the other side, we will surmount every problem that comes our way. I can’t wait to start enjoying the goodness that is embedded in the New Year.
Charly Boy:
Our failure as a country is our fault as a people. The revolution beckons in 2017. The mindlessly audacious political criminality of government will be matched with renewed mass popular uprising of the Nigeria people demanding a better nation, good governance, fairness, equality and justice for all Nigerians. Our hunger, anger, vexation and frustration have reached their climax. It is time to flood the system with fearlessly youthful, defiant and determined Nigerians. The demons of the Nigeria nation have used religion, ethnicity, tribalism and corruption to divide us.
K1 D Ultimate:
We are looking forward to a prosperous New Year. Regardless of the recession, we will continue to create and deliver great music. Fans should expect the album Let The Music Flow and get ready to celebrate as K1 De Ultimate turns 60.
Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi:
The outgone year was a busy one and from the look of things, 2017 will be busier. So far, I thank God for everything, especially with the grace and the acceptability from fans world over even at my age in the industry. On my expectation for the New Year, my desire and prayer have always been that peace should reign in the Nigeria so that every Nigerian will be successful and fulfilled in their various endeavours as well as be glad to collectively work for the progress of the country. I look forward for more progressive entertainment industry. I am also confident that it will be a fulfilled year; more works (songs and albums). I have no reason to soft-pedal because I am not getting tired with what I love to do, especially with songs that will win souls for Christ.
Fisayo Ajisola:
For me, 2016 was an interesting and fulfilled year. I released my first movie, an advocacy film and celebrated the fifth year of my Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Jewel Empowerment Foundation (JEF). I am also glad to associate and celebrated the Yuletide with some underprivileged children at the Home of Destitute, OkoBaba, Yaba in Lagos State before travelling to the United Kingdom to celebrate Christmas and New Year with my family. Indeed, it was a well accomplished year to remember which has also raised my bar from being an actress to a movie producer. The journey has just started and I will also intensify efforts to give my best in giving young Nigerians, especially the underprivileged, the opportunity to live a meaningful life beyond 2017. I want my fans to expect more from me because the game has just started. All hands are on deck to produce a blockbuster movie and works that will fight for the course of the younger generation across Nigeria with the NGO.
Adedimeji Abdullateef:
I want to say a big thank you to everyone that was part of my 2016 and I know that it can get better in 2017. I appreciate you all; I really do. I will love to leave this statement with my fans “If you can’t be thankful for what you have, be thankful for what you’ve scaled through. The doors of goodness that you’ve been knocking on and those you didn’t knock on; God will open them for you.”
Habibat Jinad:
My fans should please be on the lookout for a new brand from me, a new name, new movie projects and other interesting things I will love to keep under wrap at the moment. I trust God that all these desires will come out as planned because I cannot wait to give out my best in 2017. I also want God to bless me beyond my imaginations so as to help others, particularly the needy. I also pray for Nigeria to have a peace of mind.
Queen Funmi:
I want my fans to expect a better album from me because I am already planning to engage in collaborations with the King of Juju Music, Sunday Adegeye, popularly known as KSA and Fuji maestro, Wasiu Ayinde, a.k.a K1. Plans are in the pipeline to sponsor some up-and-coming artistes, especially those that mean business. Most importantly, I will also launch my foundation, Queen’s Foundation (QF) in a few months time. The foundation is centred on educating young women on how to become women of virtue as well as to preach against abortion through a programme tagged: “War Against Abortion”. I believe God that it will be a fulfilled year because 2016 was splendid. I am glad with the acceptability of my just released album entitled: “Rejoice” and I pray that we will all rejoice through the fresh year. I also want to be closer to my creator this year and increase my effort to preach the gospel through my music because we are nothing without God.
Joke Jigan:
My expectations are nothing other than more cash flow, fame and new things in 2017. My fans should also watch out for the best in me and I will be better for them.
E Money:
New Year is the time when all hopes are new. so, are your aspiration, new are your resolutions and new are your spirits. So, I am wishing everyone a very promising, fulfilling and a happy New Year!
Odunlade Adekola:
I want to appreciate my people in the entertainment industry and my entire fans for a wonder and amazing 2016 that just passed by. Let’s do it again in 2017. May God crown our efforts. Happy New Year to you all!
