2017 Guber Poll: INEC boss bags Peace, Service to Humanity Award in Anambra

THE Resident Electoral Commissioner, Anambra State, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji has been presented “Prize for Peace and Service to Humanity” Award in Awka, the state capital in recognition of his hard work and dedication during the November 18, 2017, governorship election and the January 13th, Anambra Central Senatorial re-run election.

Speaking while presenting “Prize for Peace and Service to Humanity”, Award to Orji, the Director African Emerging Leadership, Research and Development Organization, Dr Rhuefe Khaese, said the management of Electoral Bodies should avoid unnecessary distraction and concentrate on the fight to eliminate election malpractices.

Dr Khaese stressed the need for Electoral bodies to remain unbiased umpires in election matters by upholding honesty, accountability and humility in the discharge of their duties.

He explained that the Award was in recognition of the hard work and dedication of Dr Orji in election management and administration during the November eighteen 2017 Governorship election in the state and the January thirteen, Anambra Central Senatorial re-run election which he noted, came at a time when many people have lost their common dignity through questionable character, maladministration and unpatriotic acts.

Responding, Dr Orji while thanking the delegation for the recognition and honour, noted that the outcome of the elections was a result of collective efforts of the staff, supporting staff and other stakeholders who strived to meet expectations of Nigerians who desired major transformation in the way public affairs are handled in the area of governance generally.

He observed that the gesture was a beginning of a new dawn of expanding collaboration between the commission and non-government organisation to produce greater accomplishment.

In his remark, the Administrative Secretary of the Commission, Mr Charles Mbanaja, said the award was a call for greater responsibility to always maintain the highest standard in their activities.
