A 20-year-old man, Fisayo Ademola, was, on Tuesday, sentenced to six months imprisonment by the Federal High Court, Ibadan for cybercrime.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convict faced a one-count charge bordering on cybercrime, to which he pleaded guilty.

The trial judge, Justice Patricia Ajoku, ordered that the gains of the crime, recovered from the convict, be forfeited to the Federal Government through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The items included a black Tecno Camon phone, the sums of N13,400 and 975 dollars.

The judge, however, took the July 30, 2019 date of arrest of the convict into consideration in determining the sentence.

Earlier, the Prosecuting Counsel, Mr O. A. Owodunni, had told the court that the convict pretended to be a woman, with the name, Brenda Hughes, an American citizen, on a dating website.

“He also created a fake Gmail account, brendahughes2552@gmail.com and defrauded one, Matthew Christianson, with the fake identity, gaining a 975 dollars worth of Amazon gift card, and N13,400 from his victim,” Owodunni said.

He further said that the convict was arrested on July 30, 2019, along with other suspects, at Ologuneru area of Ibadan.
