Ovie Layeguen, the Ohworode of Olumu Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta has conferred chieftaincy titles on 20 sons and daughters of the kingdom.
The event, which took place last Friday in Olomu, was to kick-start the programme lined up for the monarch’s centenary birthday celebration.
Layeguen, whose title is Ogbon Ogoni-Oghoro 1, Ohworode of Olomu, has shortlisted 50 persons to receive the titles.
Sons and daughters of Olomu and neighboring communities within and in diaspora converged on the King’s Palace to witness the root culture of the Urhobo ethnic nationality.
Adorned with white clothes, red beads and caps, it was a celebration of some sort as relations and wellwishers came to rejoice with their loved ones.
The monarch advised the beneficiaries to abstain from immoralities.
“You must be honest respectful and abstain from adultery,” he said.
One of the recipients, Paul Abu, said his contributions to the growth of Urhobo nation spurred the king to honour him with the title.
“This chieftancy honour will encourage me to do more for my Urhobo nation,” he said.
The chieftaincy conferrment would last for three days as part of the week-long epoch event.
Other programmes lined up for the events are: a novelty football match between Warri Wolves FC and Delta Force FC, book launch, and foundation laying ceremony of the permanent Palace of the Olomu Kingdom.
Some of the other tecipients included: Ochuko Ogbon as (Akpesiri of Olomu Kingdom), Benjamin Ebite as (Atotatigho of Olomu), Okpako Ekao as (Omogragra).
