2 million people targeted for agric empowerment training scheme in S/West

PROJECT Director of Lagos State Agricultural Empowerment Training Scheme, Mr Oluwaseyi  Bamigbade, on Monday said over two million people were being targeted for the training in the South- West geo- political zone of the country, noting that this was part of measures to ensure that there was food security in the country.

Bamigbade disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Lagos, saying the training already going on in state would be replicated in all the South- West states.

According to him, the training will enable the participants to deepen their knowledge in agriculture in areas such as soilless vegetable production, cassava, wheat and rice processing, including marketing techniques both locally and internationally.

Bamigbade, who presented certificates to 225 residents beneficiaries from the training, said there was no way people can practice productive agriculture without cognate experience on modern farming and training.

He explained that the training would allow the participants to understand the best way of rearing domestic animals and catfish production, adding that it would further reduce high level of importation of foods and other domestic products from other countries.

One of the participants, a graduate of agric-extension, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Omotola Blessing Adedayo, lauded the Lagos State government for establishment of such training, saying it was the only means of engaging youths on agriculture that would make them become self reliant.

He urged the South- West governors to imbibe the good innovations, noting that farming was the only way to address the economic problems in the country.
