2 men in court for allegedly burgling hotel

TWO men, Daniel Adeniyi and Samuel Onuoha, on Wednesday, appeared before an Agbowa-Ikosi Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, charged with burgling a hotel and stealing valuables valued at N640,000.

Adeniyi, 28, and Onuoha, 28, whose addresses and occupations were not provided, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, theft and burglary preferred against them.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 8 at 1.00a.m at Oko-Ito Town, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Egunjobi said that the two defendants burgled Orhab Hotel, a newly built hotel and stole five LED TV, one refrigerator, one standing fan, ceiling fan, stabilizer, wall clock, two mattresses and kitchen utensils.

“Adeniyi and Onuoha broke into the newly built and furnished hotel, yet to be opened for business, and stole the items, property of Hammed Olorire, valued at N640,000.

“The duo had hired a vehicle to cart away their loots, but they were caught by members of a vigilante group in the area,” the prosecutor said.

Egunjobi said the offences contravened Sections 287, 308 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Sections 287and 308 carry three years imprisonment for theft and burglary respectively, while 411 prescribes two years imprisonment for conspiracy.

The Magistrate, A.O. Ogbe, admitted the defendants to N200, 000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

The case was adjourned until Aug. 5 for further hearing.
