2 men break into shop, steal 20 bags of rice land in court

TWO men — Ini Joshua and Anthony Bankole — who allegedly broke into a shop and stole 20 bags of rice and other valuables worth at N590,000, were on Monday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

The duo of Joshua, 22, and Bankole, 50, is facing a two-charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Although the accused pleaded innocence of the offences, the prosecution insisted that the accused committed the offences with others still at large on May 28 at 1.05 a. m. on Ijasa Osike Road, Iyana-Iyesi near Ota.

The accused broke into the shop of the complainant, Mrs Funmilayo Adeyeye and stole the 20 bags of rice and other items all valued at N590,000, Police Prosecutor Chudu Gbesi, told the court.

The offences contravened Sections 411(2) and 516 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.

Following their “not guilty” plea, the accused were granted bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr G. E. Akan, who gave the ruling, said the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.

In addition, the sureties should show evidence tax payments to Ogun Government.

The case was adjourned until Aug. 7 for the mention.
