2 killed, 3 wounded as police, Shiite clash in Kaduna

Two persons were reportedly killed in a protest, while three others were said to be seriously wounded when the Shiite and the police clashed in Kaduna.
The wounded persons were believed to be receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Kaduna at the time of filing this report.
The Free Zakzaky Protests broke out in Kaduna along Ahmadu Bello Way /Kano road at 5 PM on Sunday, just as the police shot sporadically to disperse the protesting crowd.
The Kaduna State government had before now outlawed street protests by any group or individual in the State.
Our correspondent noted that motorists hurriedly made U-turns to various routes to escape the troubled areas as the sound of police gun rent the air sporadically.
It was also observed that shop owners within the areas closed abruptly and scampered to safety for fear of stray bullets from the police.
However, the police in a swift reaction said its men were at the Leventis roundabout after getting reports that the Shiites were about to embark on a protest march.
Police public relations officer in Kaduna State, ASP Mukhtar Husseini Aliyu, said the police was here to disperse the procession as the state government has banned such processions from holding in the state.
The PPRO could not confirm the number of those killed in the protest but however, said there was an altercation and two civilians and one policeman were injured.
He said the situation has however been brought under control and normalcy has returned to the place.
Aliyu said some of the protesters have been arrested and would soon be charged to court.
