2 Germans kidnapped, 2 Nigerians killed by gunmen in Kaduna

A German archaeologist, Prof. Peter Breunij and his associate, Johannes Buringer, have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen at Jenjela village in Kagarko local government of Kaduna State.

It was also gathered that two hunters who were at the scene of the abduction were also killed by the hoodlums.

The incident according to findings happened on Wednesday when the professor who was leading four man team from the University of Frankfurt, Germany were working in Nigeria in collaboration ‎with the National Commission for Museum and Monuments and other institutions on the relics of Nok culture in Nigeria.

However, it was gathered that two ladies who were part of the team were spared and thus escaped miraculously.

An eyewitness, who was part of the team working in collaboration with Germans said the incident happened when they had resumed for work at a site at Jenjela village, and had started working when five gun men appeared from the bush and ordered them to lie down.

“They started coming one by one, the first two with machetes then the others with heavy guns. There were many people at the site who were working so they ordered us to face down and shot into the air in order to scare people.”

“It was at that point that they asked the professor and his associate to follow them, they led them to the other side of the road, made them to cross and began to lead them further into the bush.”

“A hunter whom they had snatched a phone from asked us to go after the men, but only one of us obliged. The two men crossed the road chasing after the gun men. When the gunmen realised that they were being followed, they turned around and opened fire, killing the hunter and the other man.”

‎A source said the matter has been reported to the police at Kagarko. However, the Police public relations officer, ASP Usman Aliyu, said they were yet to receive formal brief on the matter.
