Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Prof Daud Sangodoyin has disclosed that no fewer than 2.7 million notebooks are ready for distribution to both primary and secondary school students across the state.
Sangodoyin disclosed this to journalists in his office on Tuesday, while briefing them about the 100 days stewardship of Engr Seyi Makinde’s administration, particularly to the education sector.
According to him, the state governor is committed to moving education in the state to a greater height, by putting in place policies and infrastructures that would not just change the live of the students but also help in alleviating the burden of the parents of these students.
He said the governor upon his resumption to office on May 29, has paved the way for accessibility to education for kids in the state by scraping the levies being paid by students in the state-owned primary and secondary schools.
“The first step towards reducing the number of out of school children and to enable education is easily accessible to children across the state was taken by the Engr Seyi Makinde on May 29, when he announced the scrapping of the N3, 000 being paid by pupils of all public primary and secondary schools in the state,” he said.
The commissioner further said the governor has also achieved timely and up to date payment of salaries and leave allowances of teachers across the schools in the state.
He said the government within 100 days in office has not only achieved the production of 2.7 million notebooks for students but has also done the rejacketing of textbooks for students in the state.

“We have produced 2,782,806 customised notebooks for students and we have also facilitated the rejacketing of 13-subject textbooks for students within 100 days in office,” he said.
On infrastructure, he said the government has completed the renovation of some blocks of classrooms across the state.
“We have completed the renovation of three blocks of classrooms at Community High School, Ilora, two blocks of six classrooms has also been renovated at Agugu high school, here in Ibadan and we have completed the renovation of offices and classrooms at Community high school, Fiditi, which are just part of the infrastructure developments we are doing in the education sector” he said.
The commissioner thereby said that, just as the government is marking its 100 days in office with these developments in the education sector, there are still so many things the government is determined to achieve within a year in the office.
