19,000 civil servants without BVN not 41,000, Bauchi gov clarifies

AS controversy continues to trail the Committee constituted by the Bauchi State Government to investigate the non-possession of the Bank Verification Number (BVN) by some civil servants and pensioners in the state, the Committee has declared that a total of 19,000 people have been discovered not to have BVN as against 41,000 earlier announced.

The figure was made public on Sunday by the State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir while interacting with Government House Correspondents expressing gratitude to the people of the state for understanding the intention of his administration on the verification exercise.

Bala Mohammed also reassured citizens of the state of the determination of his PDP led administration in providing good governance just as he pledged to give a level playing ground without molestation to all the stakeholders of the state.

The Governor further said that the ongoing verification exercise on the non-possession of Bank Verification Number (BVN) by some Civil Servants and Pensioners was not against anybody but to enable the government to the actual size of its civil servants and manage the meagre resources available.

The Governor added that it has become imperative for the government to conduct such exercise in order to sanitise the State Civil Service and rid it of perceived ghost workers and others using the civil service to perpetrate corruption.

While speaking on his recent official visit to the United States of America, the Governor said that the second stage of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the state government and the donor agencies is to ensure the provision of functional Primary Healthcare Center in each ward across the state.

He recalled that recently UNICEF has renovated 115 Primary Healthcare Centers while the state government had renovated an additional 55 to ensure effective healthcare delivery.

Bala Mohammed then said that while at the United States, he discussed ways of getting intervention for the state in the area of human capital development in the State Primary Healthcare and immunization.
