19 vehicles burnt by fire in Onitsha mechanic workshop

NO less than 19 vehicles and other items worth millions of naira were destroyed on Friday morning inferno that engulfed the Mechanic Village located in Amanator street, Awada, Anambra State, could not be immediately ascertained.

A resident close to the mechanic workshop who didn’t want himself to be mention in the print told TribuneOnline that no life was lost in the incident. “The fire started around 2.00 am and lasted till about 6.00 am.”

According to the PPRO, Anambra State Police Command, SP Harunna Mohammed in a press release in Awka, the Anambra State Capital, said the fire incident also affected high tension wire which passes through the area. And the fire was eventually put off by the concerted efforts of residents of the Area.

He said the police patrol team attached to Awada division rushed to the scene and cordoned off the Area to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation to loot. And that no loss of life or injury recorded.

Enugu Electrical Distribution Company (EEDC), has been contacted to effect necessary repairs on the affected power line, he added.

And the case is under investigation to ascertained circumstances surrounding the incident.
