A 18-year-old man, Mustapha Usman, on Friday, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing a Galaxy AO3 Samsung phone worth N150,000.
Usman, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on March 11 at 12.30 p.m. in Okeyinmi area of Ado-Ekiti.
Oriyomi alleged that the defendant stole the phone belonging to the complainant, Mr Ologundudu Rahmat.
He said that the defendant was allegedly caught in the act and the phone was recovered from him.
Oriyomi said that the defendant also allegedly conducted himself in a manner likely to breach the peace.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 302 and 181(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Defence Counsel, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N25, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to April 14 for mention.
