17-year-old boy commits suicide over alleged maltreatment by father in Ekiti

A 17-year-old boy Opeyemi Oluwafemi has committed suicide over alleged maltreatment by father in Epe-Ekiti, Ijero local government area of Ekiti state.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the decomposed body of Oluwafemi was found on a tree adjacent his father’s house in the community around.

A source who spoke with our correspondent said the deceased might have killed himself over alleged maltreatment by his father who repeatedly tortured him with dangerous objects at the slightest provocation.

” His father drinks often time and maltreats Oluwafemi and his mother every night before going to bed.

” On Saturday the boy was beaten as usual and had to escape from the house when he could no longer bear the pain. All efforts to locate him proved abortive and he did not return to the house as expected at the weekend.

” However, the offensive odour and flies which took over the vicinity caught the attention of members of the community who later discovered the decomposing body of the young man dangling on the tree,” the source said.
