Sixteen persons were burnt to death on Tuesday afternoon in a lone accident that occurred at Buhari Estate, Kobape, along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Public Education Officer, Florence Okpe, the accident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. and involved a commercial bus with the registration number KJA 949 YJ.
Okpe attributed the unfortunate incident to a gas explosion, explaining that a total of 21 passengers were on board.

She stated that three persons survived the accident, though they were injured, while 19 others, whose genders could not be ascertained, were burnt.
The injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, for treatment.
Okpe added that the Sector Commander, CC Akinwunmi Fasakin, was part of the rescue operation and lamented that the incident could have been avoided if the driver had refused to transport the gas-filled cylinder.
