Markets that benefitted from the project include Bola Ige International Gbagi in Ibadan, Bembo Market, Apata in Ibadan, Eleeka Market in Oyo, Bodija Market in Ibadan, Saasa Market in Ibadan and the largest market in Ibarapa zone of the state; Towobowo Market in Igboora.
The State Commissioner for Finance and Budget, Mr. Abimbola Adekanmbi, at the inauguration of one of the boreholes at Bodija Market, Ibadan, explained that the project was completed through the Conditional Grants Scheme, noting that the project is in line with achieving Goals 3 and 6 of the SDG which is Good Health and Clean Water Sanitation.
Adekanmbi, who is the also the Chairman of the Conditional Grants Scheme, said that the boreholes tagged Ajumose Water Points have been provided with a standby generator, adding that two of the boreholes are located at Sabo Market, Ibadan while Omi Adio Market, Apata, Ibadan, Obanisunwa Market, Ayete, Aaraada Market, Ogbomoso, Odo-Oba Market, Odo-Oba, Ogo-Oluwa, Oja Agbe Market, Iseyin, Olorunda Market, Iganna and Owode Market, Igboho are billed to have one each and construction is already ongoing
Speaking at the inauguration, the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Toye Arulogun said that the market men and women are integral parts of the government and reiterated government’s commitment to provide more infrastructures for the people of the state.
He said that the informal sector is important to increased IGR of the state, stating that more state expected from the market men and women to ensure that the government provides more facilities for the people.
In his address, the Special Adviser to Governor Ajimobi on SDG, Mr Tope Fajana said the Ajumose Water Points would go round all the markets in the state, stressing that the project is meant to ensure provision of clean and potable water to the citizenry of the state.
He charged the committees entrusted with the management of the boreholes not to shy away from their responsibilities and ensure they take care of the project, which is aimed at ensuring smooth business activities in the communities.
He enjoined the communities and traders in the markets to make good use of the facilities, noting that SDG would not relent in its efforts to bring succor to the people of the state.
While speaking, the Babaloja of Bodija Market, Abattoir section, Alhaji Ganiyu Olobo, expressed appreciation to the state government for the project, which he said demonstrated government’s commitment to the traders and consequently assured that the borehole would be adequately used and managed by the people in the market.
Alhaji Olobo said that water is germane to their business and what the government had done would go a long way to ensure that people have access to clean potable water.
While appreciating Governor Abiola Ajimobi for the provision of motorised borehole with electric power generator, the Onisapaa of Isapa in Ogbomoso South Local Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Amodu, said the achievements of Governor Ajimobi, which includes the borehole, was of paramount importance to his people and the reason he became a strong supporter of the APC alongside hisnpeople.
In Odo Oba, Ogo Oluwa L.C.D.A, the Babaloja of Odo Oba, Chief Emmanuel Onawale said he had not witnessed such a remarkable development in the market since he assumed office of Babaloja, adding that the provision of the borehole in the market had solved the problem of water scarcity being encountered by his people.
Speaking on behalf of the entire traders of Olorunda market, Iganna in Iganna Local Council Development Area, the treasurer of the market, Pa Moses Akinlade said traders had been facing the problem of shortage of potable water since the inception of the market seven years ago, adding that the governor had succeeded in putting smiles on their faces by sinking the borehole at the market through the sustainable development goals (SDGS). He emphasized that they would do everything within their powers to give total support to APC in future. electricity.
The Caretaker Chairman of Iganna LCDA, Honourable Samuel Egunjobi expressed his appreciation to the governor and assured the governor and APC as a party of the total support of the people of his area in forthcoming elections, while his counterpart from Iseyin Local Government, Mr Akanni Abolade Salami, stated that the governor has impacted positively on the lives of the people of Iseyin through dualization of roads and creating an enabling environment for business activities as well as provision of qualitative education for the children.
And as the government through the SDGs tries to provide basic amenities for the people at the grassroots, the people have been urged to inculcate a maintenance culture so that the facilities will serve them well.
