A 14-year-old boy has killed self for being sent out of school for school fees.
According to an investigation that was conducted by the police in Embu county, Kenya, Dickson Mwenda, a student at Kiriari Primary School in Kigumo Village and a candidate for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam this year, reportedly got home from school to find his mother caring for his other siblings.
Nelson Muturi, the area leader, claimed that he entered the room after telling his mother why he was arriving home early. Mwenda’s mother called for him to come out after seeing to his siblings so they could return to his school together, but he didn’t answer.
She entered the room only to find her son’s body dangling from the house’s rooftop. The woman then raised an alarm, attracting the attention of the neighbours.
One Reverend Robert Nyaga, among the locals who responded to the woman’s distress calls, described the boy as obedient, adding that the incident was unfortunate.
The boy’s body was moved to Embu Level 5 Hospital mortuary pending police investigations.
