Come with your academic credentials, tax papers, Ekiti PDP tells governorship aspirants

THE Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State has told governorship aspirants in the party to submit their letters of intent at the party’s secretariat beginning from Monday (today), February 26th.

The chairman of Ekiti PDP, Chief Gboyega Oguntuwase, had earlier issued a statement in which he assured governorship aspirants in the state that “organising a free and fair election for Ekiti PDP is not negotiable and not compromising because it is the constitutional responsibility of the party.”

The party had asked the governorship hopefuls to submit their letters of intention to contest the election to a committee headed by the State Chairman, with the secretary, the state publicity secretary, the organising secretary and the state women leader as members.

Oguntuwase had also asked the aspirants to accompany their letter of intent with “education certificates, birth certificate/declaration of age; sworn affidavits that they are not ex-convict or standing trial for any crime presently, four recent passport photographs and evidence of tax payment.”

The party had issued the release earlier in February and had said that “the committee is set up to receive the letter of intent to contest for governorship primary election of the party from desiring aspirants”, and had also instructed that the letter “shall be signed by the aspirants and countersigned by 10 members of PDP in each of the 16 local government areas of the state.”
On Sunday, the publicity secretary of Ekiti PDP, Mr Jackson Adedayo, in a statement announced that the party was ready to receive the letters from the aspirants.

Adedayo said: “Sequel to the earlier announcement that aspirants for governorship primary of the party would start to submit their letters of intent on the Monday 26th February, the Ekiti State chapter of PDP has directed the interested aspirants to attach with the letter their CV, academic credentials, evidence of tax payment for three years, evidence of not standing trial or convicted on criminal matters, 4 passport photographs, party membership card and voters registration card.

“The aspirants are equally directed to visit the party secretariat for further details on administrative charges and other financial obligations.”

But one of the aspirants, Adedayo Adeyeye, when contacted on whether he would follow the instruction as laid down by the Oguntuwase-led executive said they were “joking.”

Adeyeye, who reacted through Mr Niyi Ojo, spokesperson of the Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM) said the party in the state had no role to play in the conduct of the party’s primaries and that there was no need for any of the aspirants to go to them.
