VICE Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri Professor Ibrahim Njodi has said that over three hundred pharmacists have been produced by the pharmacy department of the institution since inception.

He said that in spite of the security challenges associated with training such scarce professionals, the University was happy with the performance of the products of the department so far.

The VC who was represented by his Deputy Vice-Chancellor central Administration Professor Abdullahi Godowoli said the faculty was undergoing some transformation to meet up with the directive from the national universities commission NUC that the B.Pharm programme will now be upgraded to D. Pharm.

“Furthermore, within the last one year, the faculty of pharmacy has received Senate approval for the commencement of additional postgraduate programmes which includes the masters of science in pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical microbiology, clinical pharmacy, and doctor of philosophy in pharmaceutical chemistry,” he said.

He commended the management of the faculty for the outstanding research they have been conducting on cancer, epilepsy and diabetes and HIV adding that they should try and translate these results to useful products in the shortest possible time.

The VC assured that management is working diligently to complete the second phase of the faculty structures so that more lecturers would be recruited to meet up to the students’ lecturer ratio especially as the curriculum has now been changed to help the future of the profession.

He commended the inductees who will soon commence their one-year mandatory internship session to be good ambassadors of the institution and remember that they are always welcome back as postgraduate students into the institution.

Administering the oath on the graduands, registrar pharmacist council of Nigeria PCN, pharmacist Elihah Mohammed congratulated the forty-nine for making it to the third lifelogging phase of pharmacy training
